Program notes
Inspired by Viriditas (“greenness”), VIRIDESCENCE presents a program at the intersection of sacred and electronic music, in which the chants of Hildegard of Bingen are reimagined through the electronic lens of a modular synthesizer. Viriditas is the principle of growth and unfolding in the writings and compositions of the abbess Hildegard. Drawing from her chants, Maren Schwier develops free vocal lines that branch out and evolve organically. Through spatial sound, Raphaël Languillat distributes the sonic material throughout the space, creating an immersive listening experience for the audience. By interweaving historical compositions and actual improvisations, VIRIDESCENCE follows the generative potential of this “greening power.”
Première
08/02/2025 - Maren Schwier & Raphaël Languillat | Museum Angewandte Kunst - Frankfurt (DE)
